2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE vs. 2026 GLE: What's New?
The Mercedes-Benz GLE is getting a meaningful update for 2027. If you're deciding between a current 2026 GLE and the incoming 2027 model, the biggest changes are easy to spot: new cabin technology, updated styling, standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive and changes throughout the powertrain lineup.

The 2027 GLE brings its biggest changes inside the cabin and under the skin. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed a standard three-screen MBUX Superscreen, the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), fourth-generation MBUX, revised exterior lighting and grille design, standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive, updated powertrains and a new AMG GLE 53e HYBRID for the U.S. market. Mercedes-Benz says the updated GLE family will arrive at dealerships in 2026.
How different is the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE?
This isn't a ground-up reinvention of the GLE. Instead, Mercedes-Benz has updated several of the areas buyers interact with most: the displays, infotainment system, exterior lighting, available suspension technology and powertrain choices.
That makes the 2027 model especially interesting for someone already considering a GLE. The overall idea of the vehicle remains familiar, but there are real differences between the current 2026 GLE and the new 2027 version.

The biggest change may be what you see from the driver's seat
The current GLE already has a highly digital cabin, but the 2027 model takes a noticeable step forward. Instead of the current pair of 12.3-inch screens, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed a standard MBUX Superscreen made up of three 12.3-inch glass displays.
The 2027 GLE also moves to the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS, paired with fourth-generation MBUX. Mercedes-Benz says the system includes an AI-based voice assistant and is designed to keep vehicle software up to date.
For shoppers who place a high value on in-cabin technology, this is one of the clearest differences between the two model years.
A fresh look for the 2027 GLE
Mercedes-Benz has also given the GLE a visible exterior refresh. The 2027 model introduces redesigned headlamps with twin Star motifs, a larger radiator grille and an illuminated Mercedes-Benz Star framed in chrome.
A new generation of DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps with micro-LED technology will also be available. The changes aren't about turning the GLE into something completely different; they're designed to give the updated model a more modern identity while keeping the familiar GLE shape.
The 2027 GLE powertrain lineup gets some important changes
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed several updates across the 2027 GLE range. The GLE 350 4MATIC retains its 255-hp four-cylinder engine while adding a new, more powerful electric auxiliary compressor. The GLE 450 4MATIC continues with 375 horsepower, but torque increases to 413 lb-ft.
The plug-in hybrid changes more significantly. The current 2026 GLE 450e 4MATIC produces 381 combined horsepower. For 2027, Mercedes-Benz has announced the GLE 500e 4MATIC, pairing a 3.0-liter inline-six with an electric motor for 429 combined horsepower and 502 lb-ft of combined system torque.
At the top of the non-AMG SUV range, the 2027 GLE 580 4MATIC increases output to 530 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.
New intelligent AIRMATIC damping
Available AIRMATIC air suspension gains intelligent damping technology that Mercedes-Benz says can use cloud-based information to anticipate road irregularities and adjust in real time. AIRMATIC is standard on the 2027 GLE 580.
Towing capability remains substantial
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed a maximum towing capacity of up to 7,700 pounds for the 2027 GLE when properly equipped with the optional trailer hitch.
There's also a new AMG GLE for the U.S.
One of the more interesting additions for 2027 is the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53e HYBRID, which Mercedes-Benz says is new to the U.S. market.
Offered as both an SUV and Coupe, the GLE 53e pairs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with an electric motor for 577 combined horsepower and 553 lb-ft of combined system torque. Mercedes-Benz estimates a 4.4-second 0–60 mph time.
The AMG GLE 63 S also remains part of the family with its 603-hp V8, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ and an estimated 3.6-second 0–60 mph time for the 2027 model.
Should you buy a 2026 GLE or wait for the 2027 GLE?
That really comes down to what matters most to you.
The 2027 GLE makes the strongest case for shoppers who want the newest Mercedes-Benz cabin technology, standard 4MATIC, the updated exterior and the revised powertrain lineup. The MBUX Superscreen and MB.OS alone create a fairly obvious distinction between the two model years.
On the other hand, the 2026 GLE is available now and still offers the comfort, technology, performance and available third-row seating that have made the GLE one of the core SUVs in the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
